The Redstone Group GREEN BUILT Difference
March 2008Redstone Group is proud to be classified as a certified Green Built Builder.
To be a certified as a Green Built builder, there are seven areas that must be addressed in the design, construction, and long-term use of the home. These qualities must also be inspected and certified by a third party.
Green Built Qualities required of a Redstone Home include:
1. Lot Design, Preparation and Development – As you tour our neighborhoods, you will notice the respect for the natural features that Redstone Group provides.
2. Resource Efficiency – Redstone Group has selected products that are manufactured locally, including framing components that are engineered to use less lumber.
3. Energy Efficiency – All Redstone Group homes are Energy Star Certified. They even exceed the Energy Star standards by a significant amount. Compared to a home built by code, Redstone Group homes will save 40 percent. In addition to high efficiency furnaces, power-vented water heaters, and programmable thermostats, efficient windows, insulation is added to the basement foundations, insulated sheathing is used on the exterior walls, and ductwork is tested and selectively sealed. The benefits of insulating foundation and the insulated sheathing are outstanding. Both of these areas are most always ignored by other builders. From a heat transfer perspective these are two of weakest areas in most homes.
4. Water Efficiency – Some of the greatest gains in water conservation are in the design of our irrigation systems. Making use of multiple zones and rain sensors in this area can save tremendous amounts of water. The biggest gains in your home can be made with the selection of your washing machine.
5. Indoor Environmental Quality – Redstone Group uses paint that is a ceramic low VOC (volatile organic compound) paint. All of our homes have merv 10 high quality air filters on the HVAC system. This traps smaller particles from being circulated through your home. In our carpet selections we also have selections that are considered low VOC, with new samples continuing to arrive.
6. Operation, Maintenance, and Homeowner Education – All of the exterior materials for a Redstone Group home are selected for the long term benefits not just the initial costs. The composite trim, aluminum wrap, and siding we use all minimize the annual maintenance. In addition to saving resources over the long term, this also reduces association maintenance costs.
7. Global Impact – In addition to the improved indoor environmental quality, the paint in your home, Redstone Group also reduces the level of VOCs are used. The manufacturing and application the paint minimizes the VOCs released to the atmosphere.
